Margaret Tytler (1785-1822), born in the county of Angus, spent her adult life in northern India. Living in Patna and Tirhut, she became particularly interested in local crafts and agriculture and commissioned at least three sets of scale models documenting the tools and machines she saw in use during the early 19th century. Academic study into the life and work of Sir Daniel Hamilton is hampered by the lack of records and written literature surrounding his accomplishments. Fortunately, the ‘utopia’ that he sought to create, in the Sundarbans region of West Bengal, still stands. It now encompasses more than 40 districts, which are still, to some degree, under the co-operative wing of the original experiment in Gosaba. Read more
The musical event “Celebrating Tagore” was organized by Dr Christine Kupfer/ ScoTs on 8th of June and presented the work of composer and conductor Abraham Mazumder. Abraham Mazumder has written scores for a philharmonic orchestra for a project entitled “Tagore in Symphony,” which features the immortal songs of Rabindranath Tagore in classical arrangement.
