8th June 2015: Tagore in Symphony

The musical event “Celebrating Tagore” was organized by Dr Christine Kupfer/ ScoTs on 8th of June and presented the work of composer and conductor Abraham Mazumder. Abraham Mazumder has written scores for a philharmonic orchestra for a project entitled “Tagore in Symphony,” which features the immortal songs of Rabindranath Tagore in classical arrangement. 

Madhusree Mazumder recited songs in English and Bengali, accompanied by Maestro Abraham Mazumder on the piano. We showed film excerpts of Abrahman Mazumder’s concerts of “Tagore in Symphony.” This was followed by a discussion between Abraham, Madhusree, John Hails and Kenneth Dempster.

Ken and John are Scottish composers and musicians who teach at Edinburgh Napier University. Maestro Abraham Mazumder is a well-known conductor and composer for Western Classical Music in India, who has conducted international orchestras. Madhusree Mazumder is the director of Kolkata Music Academy.
