Mrinalini Devi was Rabindranath’s wife and mother to their five children. Mrinalini Devi was originally called Bhabatarini. She was born in 1872 at Fultala in Jessore (in present day Bangladesh). Kadambari Devi (1859-1884); Rabindranath’s sister-in-law

Kadambari Devi was Rabindranath’s sister-in-law (his older brother Jyotirindranath’s wife) and his muse. Kadambari (originally named Matangini) was born in 1859. She was nine when she entered the Tagore household as Jyotirindranath’s bride-to-be. Rabindranath was seven at the time and admired her. Read more

Jyotirindranath Tagore (1849–1925), brother of Rabindranath

Jyotirindranath was a playwright, a musician and composer, an editor and scholar, and a painter. Jyotirindranath was born in Jorosanko, Calcutta, in 1849. He was primarily taught at home by his elder brother Hemendranath. At first he studied for Fine Arts but was then attracted to theatre and left his studies  to practice and stage dramas at home.  His cousin Ganendranath had established the Jorasanko Natyasala in 1865. Dwijendranath Tagore

Dwijendranath Tagore (1840–1926), Brother of Rabindranath

Dwijendranath Tagore was a philosopher and a prolific writer, a translator, a poet, a mathematician and music composer. He initiated shorthand and musical notations in Bengali. Dwijendranath was the eldest son of Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi. He was mainly educated at home. When he was twenty, he translated Kalidasa’s Meghdoot into Bengali in 1860. In 1875, he published the poetry volume Swapnaprayan. Read more
