The musical event “Celebrating Tagore” was organized by Dr Christine Kupfer/ ScoTs on 8th of June and presented the work of composer and conductor Abraham Mazumder. Abraham Mazumder has written scores for a philharmonic orchestra for a project entitled “Tagore in Symphony,” which features the immortal songs of Rabindranath Tagore in classical arrangement.  Read more

Dr Kupfer presented a paper entitled “’Atmosphere’ as key to Rabindranath Tagore’s spiritual education” at the conference “Rabindranath Tagore’s Spirituality: Artistic, Educational and Political Expressions” that was organised by the Scottish Centre of Tagore Studies, Edinburgh Napier University and the Edinburgh International Centre for Spirituality and Peace. UKIERI Research Project: ‘The Scottish-Indian Continuum of Ideas: The Relevance of Tagore and his Circle’

In our inter-disciplinary UKIEREI project on ‘The Scottish-Indian Continuum of Ideas: The Relevance of Tagore and his Circle,’ we are studying the interchange of ideas initiated in the eighteenth century by Scottish Enlightenment ideas and will understand how they were reinterpreted and reshaped to fit the socio-cultural, religious and literary debates that affected the social fabric and ideology of the times in Scotland and India from around the mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth century.
